HandheldGadgetThings
57Hello and...
Welcome to my Handheld Gadget Things page to talk about GPS type devices, watch videos, learn the best places to download music, videos & software, read news about these gadgets and get useful tips. I just had to share these things with you. I've been hearing about people making Hubpages for several months and I finally got to it. Have you made one yet? You should give it a go.
For now, I'm hoping to help you add more fun to the little bit of free time we get these days, using an iPod, iPhone, Zune, or most any GPS handheld device, right now. These things are amazing. How did we live without them? Now they aren't just for directions, as you already know. I added some interesting videos here and am writing articles to explore handheld usage enhancing activities. Did you know that GPS devices can even help your golf game now? And entertain you? And make you more scientific, well, sort of. We have a couple of little science experiments you could try to make more use from your handhelds. We'll get to some of these things later down the page, but first, here's a video to see...

What's the "i" in iPod and iPhone mean? What does the Apple "i" stand for?
Lots of people accept the brand names of things without thinking about the meaning of the words used in the products. We all do it pretty often. But really, what does that "i" in many of Apple's products stand for? The general consensus seems to suggest "Internet" is what it stands for, like "e" stands for "electronic;" as in e-mail.
This makes me laugh a lot. I've done a little teaching over the years and I like to help others look good expressing themselves through writing; instead of looking like an unschooled "idiot" when it comes to writing in their native language :) We all took English in school, right? Not that I'm perfect in following all the rules either. But I follow the rules pretty well; as we all should, since it is our own language. But that's just my personal opinion. I love learning and applying knowledge in lots of things, including English; but enough about me.
The word "Internet" is the proper name for a particular piece of the web, so it should always be capitalized, to follow grammar rules. When Steve Jobs of Apple hired his product naming man and they put a little "i" on the front of their products, they were throwing grammar rules out the window. Also, since many Apple devices start with a small "i" as their proper name, like iMac, they are "breaking the rules" so to speak, with their entire product line. It's kind of a good idea promotionally, to be looked at as the renegade that does things differently and in an original and more personal way. I think Apple has become cutting edge in their line of electronics and am amazed at what they develop. I haven't always felt this way about Apple but am noticing a wider margin of innovation and functionality. You feel that way at all?
I've heard some people say they liked to think of the liitle "i" as representative of themselves; as in "me, myself and I." As in, it's my personal Mac computer the iMac, or my persoanl phone, the iPhone. I'm sure Apple doesn't mind that mindset at all. Here's a funny thing though, once I saw an interview with Steve Jobs and he said the "i" stood for idiot. Very funny. His idiot machines are pretty smart.
I do have a complaint against Apple however. I think this one company is "helping" people everywhere forget their basic English grammar rule of putting a capitalized letter on the front of proper names. When everyone sees the small "i" on the front of this product line, they tend to use that model in regards to other things; like "Internet." This makes me a little irritated with a small "i" as I see more and more people doing this. At least I finally think I know what has been causing it ...a great Apple marketing campaign! Well, that and maybe a bit of our declining American education system :( But don't get me started on that subject, I could probably go on a long time on that one, just like the actor Chuck Norris does. Did you get to see his article he wrote in favor of homeschooling yet? You can see it at Digg.com. He wrote it when that judge in California started trying to make homeschooling a crime. And the family he was using for his "decision," has a degreed teacher over the homeschooling kids! What is it with these judges twisting the law for their own opinions lately? Uh oh, that's another "idiot" subject.

Adding Fun to your Zune, iPod or iPhone and Taking Control of Your Time
Do you know how to make your time even more efficient by maximising your usage of your handheld, for fun? Have you fed your IPod, iPhone Nova, iPod Touch or Zune, entertainment & games yet? Did you know happy mobile users everyday have found the ultimate, legal downloads for their handhelds from many Internet sources, and only paying a one-time fee? Why would we wnat to pay a fee for each download? Everything we've been wanting to help take us thru the free spots in our days or nights, everywhere; in elevators and on coffee breaks, is available! It's easy to see for yourself what everybody is talking about and keep up with your favorite shows, movies and music on your handheld. Even Apple is talking about it. Of course they want to charge you more for their service to be integrated. And it's only iTunes, not movies, games and helpful software too.
Think of it. TV's are loaded with commercials and we certainly don't have much time these days to be just sitting around watching half a TV show and the other half, commercials! It's only natural to use thse new devices we have, to enhance our life further, while getting rid of wasted time. It makes us so much more time efficient. We decide exactly what we want to watch and when. Nobody is deciding for us how many commercials we should see repeated over and over this way. We're in charge. The whole world is shfting and television is fighting a losing battle for your time. That's why there are so many commercials on these days. Remember when it was just 3 commercials or so, every 15 minutes? Now I forget what I was watching as we get into so many commercials. That's why I think it's so convenient to use a handheld, when I get the chance, to see my favorite programs and be more in control of my time. What do you think? I'm ready to branch out into more options.
